Eric Morecambe Hide Revisited

Back in 2012, Gail Morecambe, Eric’s daughter, opened the new rebuilt Eric Morecambe hide at RSPB Leighton Moss. Her mother, Eric’s wife Joan, opened the first Eric Morecambe hide back in 1986 so it was good to keep with the family tradition. You can view our feature on the 2012 opening here.

Nine years later and an opportunity to revisit the hide presented itself during a short holiday to Morecambe, with Leighton Moss being a short drive away.

It was great to see that it was, at the time of my visit, the most popular location for bird watchers, with a lot of people sat enjoying the birdlife.

The hide had obviously been kept clean and maintained with the new Eric Morecambe statue silhouette being a great addition.

The 2012 day was one to remember and although the atmosphere in the hide was totally different then to what it was in 2021 (for obvious reasons) it was fantastic to again visit it and take time to view the many birds visible from the windows including Avocets, Redshank, Godwits, Great White Ibis and more.
