Today Was Eric's Birthday
Feature from 1926

Eric
Eric Bartholomew was born on this day in a small terrace house in the seaside town of Morecambe. His original name, Bartholomew, was changed to that of his home town to make the then up and coming double act sound better.
Together with Ernie Wise, he formed Britain’s best and most loved comedy double act that lasted for over 40 years.
His family have said he would have been bemused but secretly happy to be remembered after all this time, and the fact they are still on television at Christmas would have made him proud.
Shortly before his sad death, he said to his daughter Gail, “You will keep watching the shows won’t you, otherwise it would have all been for nothing.”
Please take a moment from your day to wish the genius that was Eric Morecambe, a very happy Birthday.
