This three CD set, released in 2013, looks promising when you first see it, with Tommy Cooper and Morecambe and Wise top of the bill on the front cover. You, as we did, expected a mixture of music and comedy to fit in with the title. People flocked to the seaside, not only to get away from it all but also to see the numerous shows.

All of the big names did summer seasons all over the UK with such resorts as Great Yarmouth, Scarborough and Portsmouth attracting the likes of Morecambe and Wise, Ken Dodd, the Black and White Minstrels, Harry Secombe, Billy Dainty and more.

I was hoping for some recordings from these summer seasons, showcasing these great talents at their best. The triple CD collection sets the scene very well with poster bill-like front cover, sadly this is where it falls down. There is no mention anywhere about the contents, and the fact that all three CDs contain just music. Music that has been pulled from the libraries and in no way links to the seaside shows.

There are comedy songs of course, with well known favourites such as Don’t Jump Off The Roof Dad (Tommy Cooper), My Boomerang Won’t Come Back (Charlie Drake) and Right Said Fred (Bernard Cribbins). As for Morecambe and Wise; only two songs are included; Me and My Shadow and We’re The Guys.

For Eric and Ernie fans, or people expecting comedy routines then, a bit of a let down.
